Sengal Parrots are little parrots from Africa. They are
well known in aviculture for being very cuddly and playful. Given enough toys
these little guys are said to play quietly for hours. Many owners compare them
to Conures in that the way the inveract with their family and the way they play
with toys.
They have been known to talk fairly well and can acquire a
large vocabulary although their voices are small and can be compared to a
Budgie's "whisper". Senegal's do have the tendency to use "attention getting
sounds" when lonely such as a microwave beep or a phone ring. The sounds can be
quiet loud at times but overall the bird is quieter than a conure.
Senegal's required many toys that need to be switched out
often in order to avoid boredom. Their emotions can be rather intense when it
comes to fear but that are rarely aggressive. The Senegal parrot does go through
a "nippy stage" when it matures at around the age of two but this is rather
short and usually the attitude changes after a few months.
