Caiques Care Information
Caiques are mostly fearless, friendly and playful. These
little clowns are from South America. Cauques love to explore their surroundings
and almost always find something to get into. Close supervision is required
during playtime. They often prefer to walk, jump, climb, or hop instead of
flying to get around. They are excellent climbers, with very strong feet and
legs.
Caiques can be somewhat unpredictable at times. If they are
scared of an person they can exhibit a lot of aggression. They also may act
aggressively to strangers. Caique aggression may result in "Caique stalking"
where the Caiques chases after the person or thing in its disfavor. The only way
to stop this behavoir is for the person being stalked to stand their ground and
show no fear.
Even with the fear-aggression Caiques make great companion
parrots and usually bond very closely to their primary care giver. They are
adorable little clowns and will always keep everyone in the house laughing. They
LOVE to bath and may do it several times a day in their water bowl! Caiques also
like to cuddle. The Caique isn't much of a talker and prefers to mimic sounds
instead of words.
